All of my paintings are inspired by the natural world. I work in layers, mainly using water-based media. As well as brushes, I use knives and skewers to reveal glimpses of the (often collaged) layers below as well as sometimes printmaking techniques to create shifting dynamics in each piece. I’m interested in the contrasting shapes and marks on the land, sea and sky, and the locations are all very dear to me. My still life work reflects my enduring fascination with flowers and pla – the compositions often include everyday objects and patterns as I explore the themes of belonging, identity and memory.
