My small still life work is painted as an immediate response to my surroundings – a simple bowl of fruit on the kitchen table, wild flowers just gathered from a hedgerow, cosmos that I grew from seed or flowers from a friend. I usually like to keep the background simple, leaving the subject as the primary focus.
